Welcome! This is a community for the serious discussion of Christian theology, the bible, and other matters of faith from a progressive, inclusive starting point. People of all denominations and all faiths (or no faith) are welcome to join in the discussion.
We assume that anyone interested in posting here takes for granted that women and men are equal in the eyes of God; that gays and lesbians have a place at the table and deserve equal treatment and inclusion in the Body of Christ including in leadership roles; that science and religious faith are not necessarily at odds with one another; that the Bible is to be read with sensitivity to context and nuance and is not meant to be taken literally.
The rules (a work in progress):
1. No "isms." So no racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, etc. Basically mind your manners. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
3. This is not the place to enforce or expect adherence to orthodoxy as set forth by any one denomination. People with orthodox beliefs are welcome here, but so are those with completely heterodox beliefs, or a combination of orthodox and heterodox. If I hear anyone using the word "heretic" unironically, I'mma come over there, and you'll be sorry.
4. Defend your position. "The Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it" is not a defense. Neither is "the by-laws of the ELCA chapter four paragraph one state..." Nor "my priest says so." We expect more depth here.
5. No baiting. You should know what baiting is by now, but if someone comes in here all "LOL SKY GHOSTS!" they will be banned.
